alderman patrick levar

Ald. Patrick Levar was reelected to his 6th term in office to represent the northwest side 45th Ward. He now ranks 7th in Chicago City Council seniority.

He is chairman of the City Council Committee on Aviation and vice chairman of the Committee on Budget and Government Operations. Ald. Levar also serves on the Committee on Committees, Rules and Ethics; the Committee on Finance; the Committee on Police and Fire; the Committee on Special Events and Cultural Affairs, the Committee on Traffic Control and Safety and the Committee on Transportation and Public Way.

In his more than 20 years as alderman he has worked with Mayor Richard Daley to bring the first new Chicago Police station on the northwest side to his ward where crime is among the lowest in the city. He brought the first new library on the northwest side to Edgebrook, a Jewel/Osco shopping complex to 6 Corners, a new, $10 million Senior Citizen resident center on Northwest Highway, more than $5 million in improvements to local schools, more than $1 million in improvements for parks/ playgrounds and helped with the grand re-opening of the Portage Theater.

Ald. Levar is also the Regular Democratic Ward Committeeman for the 45th Ward. He was elected by precinct captains and succeeds his mentor, the late Thomas Lyons, who served as chairman of the Cook County Democratic Party. The post is a non-paid position to help the Democratic Party slate candidates for various offices and to lead the ward organization in successful elections.

He is the fourth generation Levar to live in his community and a homeowner two blocks from where he was born. Ald. Levar is married to Mary Ann Levar, his high school sweetheart. They have four children and two grandchildren.
